In 2000 Midlothian Council moved away from a traditional committee based political management
system and created a new cabinet based system designed to demonstrate that partnership and community leadership are fundamental to the
management and operation of the local authority.
The Cabinet, made up of seven councillors takes decisions on behalf of the Council, based on the policies and budget framework set
by the the full Council, made up of all 18 elected members.
When the Cabinet requires to consider Education matters, three religious representatives are included as is currently required by law.
