  • The Campaign Issues : The Farming Community

The Temple Primary School catchment area is the largest of the 5 schools, and covers 25 square miles stretching from Carrington in the North down to Gladhouse in the South and from Cockmuir in the West to Temple and Esperston in the East.

There are 32 farms in the area providing up to 72 full time jobs and 81 houses. There is also a wide range of small businesses supporting these farms directly.

These farms and businesses rely on a young workforce that must be prepared to live in the area. One of the major decisions for young families moving into the area is a local school which is part of the immediate community.

It is clear that if Temple Primary School is closed, there will be a major impact on the farms, businesses and workforce that will cascade through the whole of Midlothian.

Details of the catchment area can be viewed below, click on the image for a larger version.
